Provence comprises six departements : Alpes Maritimes, Var, Vaucluse, Haute Alpes, Alpes d’Haute Provence and Bouches du Rhone. The area is renowned for its superb Mediterranean beaches of the Riviera and Cote d’Azur such as Cannes, Juan les Pins and Antibes. The major town of Nice with its February flower carnival with an airport where more than 20 uk flights arrive each day. The Var’s beaches include the well known resort of St Tropez. The Vaucluse offers superb bastide villages and wonderful views over the Luberon mountain. These areas produce a lot of wine. The major town of Marseille is in Bouches du Rhone and is a great place for property investment. Properties in Provence range from villa style homes nearer to the sea, to stone bastides and mas in the back country. There are some ski resorts in the Haute Alpes, Alpes d’Haute Provence departements which are wthin 60-90 minutes of the coast. Although some of the properties are amongst the most expensive in the world, it is still possible to buy an apartment or small house away from the coast at very reasonable prices, perhaps starting around 150,000€.
