Best known departement in this region is Pas de Calais with its ferry port at Calais as well as the Eurotunnel terminal. Calais and Boulogne offer superb shopping and the surrounding pretty rural villages provide many character properties and reasonable prices. The more sophisticated resorts of Le Touquet-Paris-Plage and Hardelot offer wide sandy beaches, typical French boutique shopping and a selection of every type of restaurant –ideal holiday or weekend resorts which also offer two golf courses for each town horseriding centres, indoor and outdoor tennis centres, sand surfing and are renowned for it various festivals including flower carnival and kite flying. Coastal apartments, character town houses and larger homes surrounding the golf courses are all available here plus the famous Le Touquet forest area which offers grander homes. This easily accessible area is popular with the Parisiens and has a very French atmosphere even though it is the closest and most accessible to the UK.
