This region comprises the four departements of Jura, Belfort, Doubs and Haute Saone and is in eastern France, which includes most of the French portion of the Jura mountain range and the plateau of the upper Saône River. The pine forests in the Jura and the pastures for stock raising are important to the area's economy. A section of the Jura slopes is planted with grapes. The Franche-Comté is famous for its Gruyère cheese and its watches and clocks. A partially renovated farmhouse and a barn with over a quarter of an acre will cost just over £50,000, a manoir dating from 1770 with a separate apartment and an outbuilding, set in 22.5 acres is priced at £750,000 and there is of course a range of houses, cottages and character properties at prices between these.
